Oversteps poets read at Poetry Society’s AGM

I’ve just posted a piece on my own personal blog about the celebration evening held at Keats House by the Poetry Society. Two Oversteps poets were reading, along with Dannie Abse on his ninetieth birthday. If you’re interested, you’re welcome to look at (or even ‘follow’) my blog. It’s at <http://alwynmarriage.wordpress.com>.

The past month has seen the publication of two new books from Oversteps, both of which will, I am sure, be extremely popular and would make lovely Christmas presents this year..

The Point of Waking, is by Cora Greenhill (ISBN 978-1-906856-43-4, price £8).

Cora, who grew up in rural Ireland and now lives in the Peak District, also spends much of her time in Crete; and the book carries some of the light and colour of that beautiful island, its people and festivals. The poems also reflect on journeys as a kind of pilgrimage through time.

Waterwheel by John Torrance (ISBN 978-1-906856-44-1, price £8), contains some of the saddest, but most elegantly expressed, poems that I have had the opportunity to edit.

John 3 waterwheel.full

John’s book is in three sections: first there are poems about the death of his best friend (Jan Farquhason, who was, by coincidence, published by Oversteps some years ago); those are followed by poems about the descent into dementia and subsequent death of his wife; and finally come poems about his new partnership with the widow of the friend who died. It thus moves from grief to joy, and the reader will travel with John through the full range of emotions. Although some of the poems are undeniably sad, they are also very beautiful.
