I’m pleased to announce the first new Oversteps book of 2017:

passing-arcadia-close-full This is Joan’s second Oversteps collection, the first one, ‘Flannelgraphs’ having bjoan-portraiteen published in 2011. In the meantime she has been working as an Associate Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Winchester, held the role of Hampshire Poet (2014) and enjoyed a spell as a Hawthornden fellow in 2012. Originally from Scotland, Joan has lived for many years in Southampton.

is teaching a Poetry School course in Exeter this term, ‘Tiny Timebombs’, starting on Tuesday 24th January
Michael Thomas
 will be reading at the Wolverhampton Literature Festival on Friday 27th January
Anne Stewart and Alwyn Marriage will be reading at Torriano Meeting House, in North London, on Sunday 5th February
Simon Williams and Susan Taylor are guest readers at Poetry Island in the Blue Walnut Café in Torquay on Thursday February 9th
Alwyn Marriage’s debut novel will be launched in York on Saturday 11th March, during International Women’s Week
Susan Taylor and Simon Williams will be leading a poetry and performance workshop, ‘Taking the Stage’, at the Teignmouth Poetry Festival in The Ice Factory, Teignmouth, on Friday March 17th

Fokkina McDonnell was highly commended in the annual Manchester Poetry competition
Sue Davies won first prize in the National Navy Museum competition and was highly commended in both the Second Light and the Winchester Poetry competitions
Mark Totterdel won first prize in the Poetry Pulse annual competition
Christopher North was awarded 2nd prize in the Yeovil Literary prize competition
Ross Cogan was commended in the McLellan competition
A C Clarke was highly commended in the Sentinel competition
Jennie Osborne won the Ware sonnet prize

Erratum: Due to an over-enthusiastic auto-correct, I’m afraid that Cora Greenhill’s name was incorrectly spelled in the last newsletter.

I’ll be in touch with two more new books from Oversteps within the next few weeks. In the meantime, here comes the Spring.

  1. Gosh, you have done well. I remember the Harper Collins Anthology you had a poem of mine in some years ago, and the reading at Guildford which was most enjoyable. Congratulations. I have had two small collections of religious poetry published – Walsingham: England’s Nazareth (reprinted last year), and The Rosary: England’s Prayer which is selling very well. The Harpers Anthology was Christian poems I think? Well done!
