Oversteps News 62 February 2021
A new Oversteps book has just been published.
I never think dark will come by Susan Jordan (ISBN 978-1-906856-89-2), price £8 plus p &p.

Susan is a Devon-based poet whose work deserves to be more widely-known and appreciated. In this, her second collection, she engages with both the light and the dark of life, celebrating birds, flowers, clouds and moorland, but also confronting such difficult subjects as Kristallnacht.
You can read an example of her work, as well as sample poems by all the other Oversteps poets, on our website: http://www.overstepsbooks.com
There have been so many cancelled launches and readings this past year, which has been very bad news for writers. However, looking on the brighter side, poetry has taken to Zoom like a fish to water, and hardly a day goes by without exciting new poetry being disseminated widely. Readings are now watched by many more people, from the comfort of their homes all over the world.
As usual, Oversteps poets feature in an encouraging number of competition successes. Here are a few recent one:
In the last Sentinel Literary Quarterly competition, Doreen Hinchliffe was awarded 3rd prize, Mandy Pannett was Highly Commended, and Mark Totterdell, Graham High and Doreen Hichliffe all received Special Mention.
Elisabeth Rowe had two poems short-listed in the Wells Poetry competition, and the short-list was read and live-streamed from the festival in the Autumn.
Doreen Hinchliffe and Alwyn Marriage were both shortlisted in the Poetry Kit ekphrastic poetry competition in the Autumn.
A C Clarke won 2nd prize in the Manchester Cathedral poetry competition,
as well as being shortlisted for the Fish Lockdown Prize
and longlisted for the Canterbury Poet of the Year competition
Alwyn Marriage was shortlisted in the 2nd Light poetry competition.
Ian Royce Chamherlain was commended in the Cannon, Sonnet or Not competition.
Doreen Hinchliffe was commended in the Ware Poets competition
In the last Café Writers competition, Sue Davies, Oz Hardwick and Fokkina McDonnell were all shortlisted.
The following Oversteps poets will be featuring on Romanian radio in the coming weeks (in chronological order of broadcast): Alwyn Marriage, Mandy Pannett, Anne Stewart, Michael Swan and A C Clarke.
Among the many forthcoming Zoom readings we look forward to the following:
February 26th: Sue Proffitt reading

wishing you health and happiness

Hi Alwyn,
Looking forward to reading with you soon at Susan’s launch.
I never think to share with you any successes but, reading through your list of recent ones from Oversteps people, thought I’d let you know that I was shortlisted for the Hedgehog Quatre Competition and shortlisted with ‘honours’ for the Cinnamon Competition. There you go …. missing by inches (or yards!)
Warm wishes,
Sue
