After a long hard winter, it is great to see this new Oversteps publication flying out to greet the spring.
I am sure you will enjoy reading Ron’s work, which will take you on journeys of the mind to meet his friends, to reflect on the Falklands War, to visit people in care homes and to watch birds as varied as kingfishers and raptors, storks and penguins.

You can read an example of Ron’s work, as well as sample poems by all the other Oversteps poets, on our website: http://www.overstepsbooks.com

As usual, Oversteps poets feature in an encouraging number of competition successes. Here are a few recent ones:

Robert Stein was shortlisted for last year’s Bridport Prize
Mark Totterdell won second prize in the Canterbury Festival Poet of the Year competition

Ros Cogan won 2nd prize in the Nature and Ecological Emergency poetry competition, was highly commended in the Sentinel competition, highly commended in the Welsh International poetry competition, longlisted in the Live Cannon International  competition, and was one of ten winners in the Manchester Cathedral poetry prize

Congratulations to all these wonderful Oversteps poets.

In other news, Alwyn Marriage will be reading some of her poems at a wonderful concert to celebrate International Women’s Day at Guildford Cathedral on Saturday 12th March. The music includes Amies’ Choir of women who have been trafficked, and the oratorio, The Girl from Aleppo, about the girl who escaped from Syria, pushed 3,500 miles to safety by her sister. It looks as though the evening will be very inspiring, so if you are anywhere near, do try to get tickets.

I hope you all enjoy the spring

Alwyn

  1. Dear Alwyn

Thought I’d drop you a note – I have heard nothing from Leah Varnell
about WWW at Dartington or from anuone else – I have emailed and left
telephone messages but to date silence. I fully intend to be there as
always – and contribute to Oversteps, possibly chair a workshop etc. I
also would like to discuss the Diary project with them. Any news?

    Hope all well with you

    Christopher
