Oversteps News 35  March 2015

There has been a flurry of activity at Oversteps, with five new books published since Christmas. Here are the latest two:

Parachute Silk by Denise Bennett (ISBN 978-1-906856-55-7)

xFlo23       Parachute Silk cover     Denise’s last book, Planting the Snow Queen was published by Oversteps in 2011, and sold well. In that book we were introduced to Denise’s elderly mother, Ada, in honest, tender poems. Ada appears again in this new collection, as she reaches the great age of 102, and subsequently dies. The book also contains a number of historical poems, including sequences on the Foundling Hospital in London and on the shipwreck of the Royal George and the Royal Oak. This latter subject forms a presentation that Denise gives to organisations interested in marine and naval history.

A Chance of Love by James Turner (ISBN 978-1-906856-52-6)

james-turner      A Chance of Love cover    This is a collection of James’s sonnets, written over two decades. While remaining true to the sonnet form, James has introduced intriguing variations. There are poems about Pavlov, reflections on an affair, a cheeky address to a competition judge, a shaped sonnet leaning over to the right and many more skilful and honest poems – not all of which are of fourteen lines, but you’ll have to read the book to see how he does that without losing the form.

Further information about these poets, and many others, can be found on our website, where you can also order any of our books.
