A new book to launch us into summer:
Safe Passage by Sue Boyle (ISBN 978-1-906856-56-4. £8)
I first met Sue Boyle when she invited me to read at her festival in Bath, and I began to discover some of the wonderful work she has done for poetry in that city through her Bath Poetry Café with its programme of public performances and Poetry Writing Days. While working on behalf of other poets, she has also been developing her own considerable talent and has, in this book, produced a stunning collection of poetry. Sue has a keen intelligence, great style, a sharp eye, a musical ear and a sense of humour; and her wide experience of the world informs her poetry. With this book to accompany us, we can all be confident of a ‘Safe Passage’.
A new book by Jane Spiro will be appearing within the next few weeks; but in the meantime we’ve decided to offer some of our older 
stock at give-away prices from time to time. The first of these is For and Against Nature by the poet and artist Christopher Cook, published in 2000. While stocks last, this book will be available, with or without Sue’s book, for £1, plus £1.80 p&p.

Wednesday 13th May: Mark Totterdell will be reading at the St Ives Arts Club at 7.30pm, as part of the St Ives Literature Festival
15th/16th May: Sue Davies will read her prize-winning poem and others at 5.30pm at the Second Light Spring Festival in London
Monday 25th May: Christopher North will read one of his poems at the Troubadour in London
Saturday 30th May: Elisabeth Rowe, Mark Totterdell and Alwyn Marriage will read at 1.30pm at the Bodmin Moor Poetry Festival
Saturday 6th June: Helen Overell will be doing a book-signing at Barton’s Bookshop in Leatherhead
Sunday 14th June: Anne Segrave will be joined by Mandy Pannett, Robin Houghton and Jeremy Page for an afternoon of poetry at St Anne’s Church, Lewes
And looking just a little further ahead, this year’s Oversteps Day at Ways with Words in Dartington will be on Saturday 11th July. Put it in your diaries now.
